DUE MONDAY: 2nd (and final) draft of BEASTS paragraph -- beautifully proofread and signed by parent/editor. You must turn yoru first draft with this new draft. Emma and Addie -- I will give you back your 1st drafts tomorrow.

DUE MONDAY: 1st draft 42 paragraph -- beautifully written and beautifully proofread.

Here's the topic:

In a scene early in the film, Jackie Robinson boards a train that will take him to Florida for spring training. Three boys watch him board and then chase after the train as it leaves the station. One of the boys -- who we learn later will grow up to be Ed Charles, 3rd baseman for the New York Mets, 1969 World Series champs -- puts his ear to the tracks as Jackie's train disappears and says, "I can still hear him going." Think about that line -- "I can still hear him going" -- and write a paragraph about what that line may mean on a deeper level (more important than just the literal meaning, that the boy can still hear the train vibrating through the rail).

SLAM POEMS - Again, I am so impressed with your slam poems. If I have an significant edits, I will give those to you tomorrow morning before I leave for my meeting. In class tomorrow, you will be continuing to workshop the poems and beginning to learn the poems so that you can perform them in front of our class on Monday.
